Most payment gateway pricing pages show one number. That number is rarely what you end up paying, and the gap is not usually anyone being dishonest. A transaction has more moving parts than a single rate can describe.

The charges you will see quoted

Transaction fee, a percentage of each sale, sometimes plus a fixed amount. Setup fee, a one-off charge to open the account. Monthly fee, a recurring platform charge that some providers waive above a certain volume. Crucially, the transaction fee often differs by payment method, because the underlying networks do not charge the same.

The charges that are easy to miss

Minimum monthly charge, refund fee, chargeback fee, settlement fee, and cross-border conversion. Any provider worth using will give you the full schedule in writing.
